This area is the shared ancestral territory of the Hualapai (People of the Tall Pines) and Havasupai (People of the Blue Green Waters). The nearby reservations were established in 1880 and 1883 after European contact began in the 1860s and settler-colonialism began in the area with miners looking to exploit the area leading to years of genocide, internment in La Paz (1874-1875), and squatters taking our homes in the surrounding areas as we returned after escaping home. The Indian boarding school era led to cultural genocide of our children being rounded up and taken to forced assimilation into Christianity and Mormonism. I am only one generation removed from boarding schools and there are still many with first hand experiences. We continue to fight for our water rights, sacred sites, and for treaty obligations to be upheld. As an enrolled citizen of the Hualapai nation, I am trying to start buying our ancestral lands back. I am looking to start with 40 acres, but expect to grow over time. I am looking to buy at a reasonable cost and not at the price of investment firms buying everything up right now. Please, if you know of anyone who is looking for a way to give back to Natives who’s land you are on, please contact me. Also open to any property deeded to us, now or anytime in your lifetime.
