Home of the Silver Hat Mining Company this mining claim produced tons of silver ore in the late 1800's and the beginning of the 1900's. Samples were taken in two stations. One was 1500 feet from the portal and the other 2300 feet from the portal. The width of the silver vein was from 4 inches to 7 feet wide. The consensus of opinion was the tunnels were not penetrated far enough to cut the best grade and volume of the ore within the lode. Near Trout Lake in the San Bernardo area this property is adjacent to National Forest land. The Garibaldi Lode mining claim has over 7 acres. This mining claim has a portal, some buildings and a well that has been capped. This old mine produced some of Colorado's best silver. The county requires a study of the water through the EPA before they will allow a building permit. This could be a long process. Camping and other temporary structures that do not need a building permit are acceptable. You will also need to get an easement through the National Forrest.
