Suppose you attend a real estate conference, seminar or class. Say a Zillow Summit, for example. And your brain is hurting from having so much information jammed into it.
Now what?
Here's the problem with attending an event like a Zillow Summit -- sometimes there are too many ideas that emerge.
Too. Many. Ideas.
There are all these thoughts and ideas running through your head but there just isn't enough time in the day to implement everything. It's a common problem and do you know how most people handle it?
They do nothing.
That's right. Psychologically, it's called the 'tyranny of choice.' Too many options and too many ideas paralyze us. So, rather than slog through all the notes and the information, trying to remember what was said, basic human nature rolls in and tells us, 'Forget it. This is too hard. There are too many choices and It's much easier to just move along how you have been.'
Sometimes you've got to push those 'human nature tendencies' aside and force yourself to do something, not nothing.
So, pick one thing you learned at the Summit, and do that. When you've got that one thing down, when it's become an integral part of how you do business, go back to your notes and target one more thing to do.
Rinse and repeat.
And keep in mind that you don't have to do EVERYTHING that was discussed in the Summit. Pick and choose. Find an area where you are weak, and make a change based on what you learned. Strong in a particular area? Then don't worry about that. Prioritize it way down your list and tackle those things that will help improve areas of weakness (and we all have areas of weakness, don't fool yourself into thinking you don't.)
Here are some things you probably heard or thought at the Zillow Summit:
If you try to do all of the above at once, it's quite likely you will get frustrated, and fail. Don't set yourself up for failure. Pick one thing, and do it. Then pick another. Bite those tasks off one at a time and you may just find yourself not frustrated and failing, but happy, successful and with an improving business.
