Scott grew up in the Minnetonka Mills area, attending Burwell School (now St. David's) and playing baseball at Big Willow. After graduating from high school, he attended Wheaton College (where he met Katie, his future wife) and then transferred and graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Madison).
