Advice from Zillow & Kaggle on entering the Zillow Prize

It’s been about six weeks since we launched Zillow Prize and since then we’ve had a phenomenal response to our competition with over 1,600 teams having submitted a potential solution to the competition and more folks joining every day!

This summer myself and other folks from Zillow Data Science will be traveling to conferences and universities to present an overview of the prize and answer audience questions about the competition, Zillow, and the Zestimate. We held the first of these events at our Seattle HQ last Wednesday and it was awsome. Stan Humphries, Zillow’s Chief Analytics Officer and Anthony Goldbloom, CEO of Kaggle gave great talks and then were joined on stage by Jasjeet Thind, VP of Data Science, and myself for a very active Q&A session. The talks covered the history of the Zestimate and Kaggle and the Q&A session included some very sharp questions from the audience and the Zillow Prize forums on Kaggle.

We’ve posted a recording of the event for those who couldn’t make it to Seattle. Go take a watch.

Note: We did not have microphones in the audience for the first few questions in the Q&A section but the answers we gave should make it clear what was asked but our apologies for that.
