Joan, Hollywood, Griffithtown, De Gray and Vaden span a rural setting around Arkadelphia, Caddo Valley and Friendship in southwest Arkansas. The area’s warm, humid summers and mild winters suit year-round outdoor outings, while nearby DeGray Lake and DeGray Lake Resort State Park offer boating, fishing, camping and trails; the park also has a golf course. Around Arkadelphia, Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University add campus landmarks, and the historic downtown has local shops, restaurants and coffee stops. Dining and errands are spread across the communities, so a car is useful for getting between them and reaching larger shopping options. Outdoor recreation is a defining part of the area, with lake access, wooded scenery and opportunities for hiking and cycling. Local arts and events are available in Arkadelphia, while nightlife is generally low-key and dispersed.
