Harperville, Hillsboro, Clifton, Homewood and Lillian are rural communities in the wooded, rolling landscape around Forest in central Mississippi. The area has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Rather than a compact downtown, its everyday destinations are spread along local roads, with Forest providing additional services and places to eat. Expect casual Southern dining and coffee stops rather than a concentrated restaurant district; shopping is largely practical and car-oriented. The surrounding countryside offers open views, quiet roads and opportunities to enjoy time outdoors, though named parks and formal trail networks are limited. Local history is tied to the region’s agricultural past and small-town life. Driving is the most convenient way to get between these scattered communities and nearby amenities, while walking and cycling are better suited to short trips on quieter roads.
