Steeped in history, the land was once the site of the Civil War's Battle of Secessionville- one of the few battles won by the South. A historical marker stands at the edge of the property, and a small annual remembrance takes place about half a mile away. The area was originally known as Riversville, an antebellum village founded in 1851 by Constant H. Rivers, later renamed Secessionville in 1861.
