Oaks are scattered throughout the lower reaches of the land, while walnuts, elderberries and scrub oaks fringe the meadows. The house offers large areas of glass open to the Upper Ojai valley to the south and the Topatopa Mountains to the north. Carefully oriented to achieve maximum passive solar advantage in the winter and shaded interiors in the summer, the house also employs active thermal solar water heating and thin-film photovoltaics.
