Our home is custom-built. It is a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired, hip roof passive solar ranch. Concrete foundation with 2x6 wood-framed walls. Canadian red cedar-shingled exterior with hand plastered blueboard interior walls: no door trim or baseboard trim — eased corners on all interior walls, doorways, and windows. Interior flooring is a cherry wood strip floor (not a laminate) with Mexican Saltillo tiles floors in the bathrooms, utility room, and wood stove hearth. The kitchen and bathroom splashes are constructed with Mexican tiles. The interior is an open space concept with high ceilings. The screened porch is usable throughout the late spring, summer, and early fall. Acrylic panels replace the screens during the winter. There is a slate patio off the porch if you want to sit in the sun or grill food. The house displays a warm and welcoming feeling. Surrounded by gardens and trees, our home has a beaver meadow view to the east. If you take a short walk up the road, you can see Mt. Monadnock, which is the most climbed mountain in the world at 3165 feet. There is no lawn to mow just a lot of leaves to rake in the fall/spring, which we put in piles to compost.
