Hurstbourne Acrea is a beautiful older neighborhood with great access to shopping and public transportation. There are no thru streets in the neighborhood to generate traffic from non residents. All entry streets have speed bumps to keep speeds down. In 1998, the Hurstbourne Acres City Park was renamed the Stanley B. Welch City Park in honor of Mr. Stanley B. Welch who served as Commissioner and Mayor of the City of Hurstbourne Acres for many years. The park is located on approximately two and one-half acres and provides a nice shaded area for many activities. The brick well house located there is believed to be approximately one hundred years old. Adjacent to the park is a five-acre retention basin and green space with a berm that adds openness and additional space for various activities. Hurstbourne Acres is also a city with it's own police force and garbage service funded thru tax revenues.
