Original Garland home-place for the entire Betty's Creek Valley. Local history has the Dillards & Garlands moved down from Virginia in the late 1700’s with the Dillards taking all the land to the east of the trail (441) and the Garlands taking the entire Bettys Creek Valley to the west. After many years of successive farming they built The Garland home-place in 1894, rock walls and all, aka Walnut Grove (for its some 40+ walnut trees). In addition, after the 1907 chestnut blight in Rabun County they reforested with the now 7’ diameter China Fir in the front yard, the biggest in the county. In the 1940’s the Griest family bought some 300+ acres and started the Griest Dairy Farm. In 2022 Mrs Griest agreed to sell me this beautiful farmhouse and 3 acres within her farmland, only if I would lovingly restore it. The spectacular stone barn is by far the most photographed and painted barn around fetching $4,000+ for its paintings. Interior pictures coming by 6/1 after the painters are completed.
