Buffalo River Getaway Secluded seven acres, more or less, as they say. Mostly flat, four miles on a well-maintained county road, from the blacktop at Snowball, 16 miles from the stoplight in Marshall, but you can throw a rock into the Buffalo River National Park. However, you will rarely find places with this convenient access to the hiking and horse trails, old homesteads and cemeteries. There are three outbuildings, but only two are worth much. One is a large, partitioned shed with old-fashioned garage doors. Its fully wired, including 220, as is the house. One of the others is an old chicken house over by the creek, which would make a great gardening shed. The last one is an old, dilapidated laundry shed, but the good (10X10) concrete pad would make a great area for a picnic table under the trees. It is truly a little bit of heaven and I will certainly miss it all... everything about it. A spring-fed creek, (Slay Branch, the east property line) runs out of the mountain on an adjacent property, along the base of the hillover 1,000 feet. The middle of County Road 13 (west boundary) runs the base of the hill on the west side to the creek. The property comes to a point there, the north end, about sixty feet from the park boundary down River Road which leads to nationally renowned Margaret White. This is one of the old, primitive recreation / camping areas (there are no others kinds) with incredible bluffs and a huge pool great for kids, dogs, fishing.and lots of parking when launching a float down the river, or a horseback riverside trek either way or on the country roads in the area..or just camping. Less than a half mile upriver, a huge spring wells up from the riverbed, maintaining the river level here year round. Summer and Fall the horses can cross the river many places to the west. The whole area of the National Park and the National Forest are noted for deer, wild turkey and elk hunting. We even have a little black bear occasionally. The property has many major trees including three apples, two of them old but still bearing, and one immense Hazelnut. Lots of clover. I have a third year doe who showed up one spring on the lawn with her two fawns - now a total of seven - four fawns, they love apples and clover). Oops! as of 02/11 we are up to nine and two weeks ago I saw nine elk grazing in the adjacent pasture across the creek, which a magnet for all the local wildlife. For family weekends, the mostly flat lawn is ideal for sports and games of all kinds(a putting green?a driving range?...volleyball,badminton,croquet?...). It is a braggable place to family and friends. The property is all fenced where necessary.
