There is a large forward courtyard with private off-street parking for many autos including yours and laundry facilities are right next to the shared kitchen, which is nicely equipped. The common areas, parlors and the historic ballroom are cleaned and the mansion managed by an onsite person. The grounds cover 1.6 acres and provide many sitting areas and walking paths for repose and studies. This estate dates to 1885 and is in an operating state. Her original features remain and she is in an good functional rental basis as she awaits another remodel back to her glory, possibly several years away. The ballroom is spectacularly original and is exactly as the day she was completed in 1916 and began to host some of the areas finest galas and gatherings. These included Paderewski, Madame Schumann-Heink arias and Martha Graham's first public performance. The estate has housed industry giants, celebrities, local major artists and designers and national as well as global politicians and their heirs. Current renters include a senior, several students at UCSB (2) and SBCC (4, 1 in from Finland), a visiting nurse for Cottage Hospital finishing a year, a resident artist for 3 years and a retired traveler from Tennessee. Pets can be considered on an individual basis(smaller the better). For students, this is a quiet private environment and you will thrive in studies at the estate. We have a no visitor rule (except family) which avoids any one renter encroaching in to the common comforts of all other renters. Our estate has nothing to do with perceived normal student renting, but we more than welcome serious students to our protective environment. Kitchen cleaning behind oneself is required as well as courtesy with laundry use. We wish to meet business stays, nurses and travelers or any longer stays (longest is 7 years). The general estate mood is respectful, professional and very amenable. A family feel with also an emphasis on privacy is garnered. We see private persons who keep to themselves as well as shared meals, evenings gathered and birthdays too. Note: Utilities have skyrocketed in this area, and the rent includes utilities which even with restrained use are now priced so very high.
