"It doesn't get any better than this" ... that's what our agent told us 11 years ago when we fell in love with this beautiful, "Hand-hewn" log home sitting above the confluence of Mountaintown Creek and Barnes Creek at the foothills of the "Cohutta Mountains. Property along a stocked-trout stream with mountain views is nearly impossible to find but thanks to a long, extended cattle field (Bear Creek Cattle) the view is breath-taking. 2613 square feet of Hand-Hewn Logs! These beams feature exterior chink with butted interior joints. ALL rooms featured exposed beams! Vaulted ceiling in the great room with hand-hewn exposed trusses! All walls and ceilings feature 1 1/4" tongue-and-groove heart pine. Very little drywall used in this home. Various grades of hardwood & pine flooring throughout (notice the individual, plugged screw holes). Decorative tile used throughout the kitchen and restrooms. Stone, see-through REAL fireplace divides the Great room and the keeping room. Master has its own REAL fireplace as well. Did you see the GIGANTIC Elk Antler chandelier! How about the Elk over the fireplace? They stay! This home has AMPLE windows and doors to maximize lighting. Every room has its own ceiling fan. The home features a laundry/mud room with pantry. Wrap around windows in the breakfast nook allow for great views of the creeks and mountains (hint: open the window to hear the bubbling waters of BOTH creeks!). The kitchen is well appointed with ample cabinets and stainless steel appliances. We use the island as a bar when they're just two of us. Farm sink is adorable. Kitchen door leads to back deck/covered porch. Keeping room doors lead to side deck/covered porch. Great room doors lead to back deck/covered porch. All doors are full glass! Master bedroom has a full bath with a shower for two! Bathroom door leads to back porch/covered deck. Master has a door that leads to side deck/covered porch. First floor has an office/library with double doors leading to Great room and door to side deck/covered porch. Storage is under stairs. Office has potential for small bedroom as half bath is located around the corner. Half bath has pedestal sink. Above the master is a bedroom with a full bath. Bath has two sinks (one pedestal) with a claw tub and single shower. There are two entry doors to the upstairs bath, one from the bedroom and one from the "Mini-Loft". We put a air mattress in the mini-loft when the entire family spends the night. Across the way, above the dining room is the full loft featuring a window facing the creek and a REAL hickory bed made by Jerry's Mountain Furniture in Blue Ridge GA (make sure you have plenty of time on your hands if you go visit Jerry he's a talker!). Jerry made the 9' 2" thick rough sawn dining room table for us! Speaking of the dining room, plenty of window to take in sounds of from the creeks (another antler chandelier located there as well). The foyer features a vaulted ceiling with stain-glass door and window with rock flooring. Home features a wrap-around, covered porch/deck. We love eating outside while listening to the creek. Home has a new heating/air system (heat pump/propane) installed last year. The home was recently stained and a new roof installed this year. The home was recently treated for termite and mold protection by Terminix. The backyard is small but features an old logging road that runs to the back of the property. Railroad tie retaining walls face the creek with stairs leading to a fire-pit. I can honestly say some of the best Rainbow Trout fishing in the area is just a few steps away from the home! A retaining wall borders the road to the east. We met the entire "neighbors" at Gates Chapel Methodist Church and are members there ... finest people you will ever meet! We hate to give up our Mountain home but know that someone will fall in love with it like we did.
