There is a 2500 KW "Northern Light" diesel powered electric generator wired to the shop and cabins, for AC power and lights, although most of the time solar panels and a charge controller are used to charge a bank of 12 V batteries that power the water pumps and a DC to AC inverter. Lights, refrigerators, freezer and water heaters are powered by propane. The Susitna Flats Game Refuge is home to moose, black and brown bears, wolverine, red fox, and other smaller mammals. There are numerous bald eagles, owls, spruce hens, ravens, ducks and many smaller species of birds. The miles and miles of trails in the Refuge afford unlimited opportunities for viewing these animals.
