    It was early in the 19th century that America's wealthy families took notice of Rhode Island, the nation's littlest state, and its 400 miles of scenic coastline. In 1839, the first of Newport's famous "cottages" was built on what was then a country road. World-class Carnegie Abbey Golf and Sporting Club is a 10-minute drive to your north. Several other golf courses are only minutes away. You will be pleasantly surprised to learn this country setting, with majestic trees and stonewalls, is just a 10-minute drive to historic Newport, Rhode Island, the sailing capital of the world. Newport is also home to the Tennis Hall of Fame, the Newport Jazz Festival and many great restaurants and shops.
