NEW UPDATED LISTING!
Ocean Front $3300/month.
Paradise awaits you on a Big Island marine reserve in this quaint neighborhood on Kealakekua Bay.
You're only 30 steps from the Kealakekua Bay, a marine reserve and home to humpwhales, dolphins, manta rays and turtles, and one of the most beautiful bays in Hawaii. It is also of great historic and cultural importance as it is the place where James Cook first landed in Hawaii. From the house you can see the Captain Cook Monument across the bay, which is also one of the best snorkeling sites in all of Hawaii.
This isn't merely a dream, it's a home--and it can be yours, right on Kealakekua Bay, one of Hawaii's most beautiful, historical and preserved areas, located on the Big Island just 30 minutes south of Kailua-Kona and 15 minutes from the Kona Community Hospital (convenient if you are a doctor or health care workers looking for a spot near the hospital).
We offer a cozy and spacious area decorated in an ocean theme. Nestled behind a small state lot, Dolphin Dreams is only 30 steps from the ocean. The rental is on the upper floor of a two-story house and is a completely separate unit with its own private entrance. The downstairs is inhabited by a local couple who are quiet and respectful.
The rental is ideal for a couple or single person.
There is a spacious living room and lanai (patio) with tables and chairs, a sofa and a reading chair where you can enjoy your meals or just hang out. Adjoining the libing room is a full kitchen stocked with appliances, including oven/cooking range, pots and pans, coffee machine, toaster, microwave and coffee grinder
Monthly rent is $3300 per month which includes taxes and all utilities. No wifi but it can easily be activated. A key deposit of $1000 is required and each month's rent must be paid in advance. The rental will be available from March 1 for a six month rental.
This rental was a top-ranked 5-star rated bed-and-breakfast before we turned it into a long-term rental. It is for people who enjoy being immersed in nature and in touch with their surroundings. It is not a condo-styled accommodation with air conditioning, piped-in music, a sealed sterile environment and manicured gardens. Perhaps the best ways to describe the rental are with testimonies from people who stayed here when it was a short-term vacation rental, which follow:
A tropical nirvana for ocean and nature lovers--
The place is as clean and as close you can get to a beautiful tropical nature. The house is a few steps away from the ocean. The living room enjoys view of the blue ocean and beautiful tropical ground. Constant breeze keeps the rooms comfortable all the time. The neighborhood is lush with tropical trees and plants. Birds, butterflies, and mongoose roam the ground in the most relaxing stroll.
Outstanding Third visit to the bay--
We could not have been happier with our stay. It was private, beautiful, roomy, quiet, and comfortable. I cannot say that I have had a better stay ever, anywhere. It is a simple place, but don't be deceived, it is rich with details that make the difference between good and great. Like, comfy beds and sheets, lots of hot water, water-sport toys, and outdoor shower. The screened in main room is big and really a nice space. The pictures don't really show how it lets you be outside while still inside.
Amazing - You won't be disappointed--
We have been on the Big Island for three weeks - and wish we had stayed here the entire time. The location cannot be beat. You can walk barefoot from the house to the water and swim (from a short distance) with dolphins, which we did on our first morning here. You can also rent paddle boards or kayaks from neighbors to paddle over to the Captain Cook monument - our best snorkeling experience on the island. Or, you can drive three miles to two-step and the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park, where we had a wonderful orientation to local culture and religion. There is also a small 'local' beach a short walk away. It is rare to be ON THE OCEAN and things are so QUIET you can listen to the waves without any traffic or disturbing noises. A tiny one-lane road winds through the tranquil community. We could go on and on - and will hopefully be back, and will surely recommend this place to friends and family.
Peaceful retreat with plenty to do--
When we go to Hawaii we go there to enjoy all the outdoor activities so we wanted to stay in a place close to activities but quiet and private at night. This house was just right. We snorkeled right out back. You can take a short drive to two steps for snorkeling as well. Between Kealakekua Bay and two steps you're in the best snorkeling on the island. We got to swim with two giant mantas at two steps. There's a kayak rental walking distance from the house. We paddled the kayaks across the bay to the Captain Cook monument with great snorkeling right in front of the monument. There's a local bee farm right up the road worth visiting. Plenty of small coffee farms and local dining spots nearby as well. You can't beat watching the sunset every night while lounging in the back yard. We fell asleep every night to the sounds of tree frogs and waves in the bay. Daily visitors include mongoose, gecko's, partridges (francolin), swarms of monarch butterflies and very colorful finches. The house has a washer and dryer so we only had to pack a couple changes of clothes and kept our suitcases light, except for the return home when we were heavy with everything we bought on the trip! The owners are very responsive and can be easily reached by phone. It was a great visit and we'll be back!
Location and Aloha
This sweet lower-story rental is full of Aloha. The ocean front view looks across the bay to the Captain Cook monument in a sleepy neighborhood. Kayak rentals are a short walk down the single lane road and snorkel gear can be found on site along with a convenient outdoor shower for washing off the sand and salt between your toes. Our group of three girl friends made many meals in the small and simple kitchen and enjoyed them outside or in the large screened patio area that really makes indoor-outdoor living a reality. We had enough wifi for our working vacation and were very productive. Work, walk, work, swim, work, kayak... Repeat. The sun and views were worth the trip alone. The owners were super responsive and generous. They and this little rental exude the spirit of Hawaii. The beds were comfortable and the cleanliness was impressive. We appreciated having laundry onsite, as we were able to dry towels and swimwear as needed. The frogs at night were very melodious... The birds will wake you before dawn, which makes the days seem so luxuriously long. This is a little piece of rustic paradise that is well worth the price.
Utilities included but not wifi. No smoking. No wild parties. Pets need to be approved. More terms on actual lease apply.
