Halfmoon Stream in Thorndike offers an opportunity for fishing and canoeing. Unity Pond is about 10 minutes away. This pond is the largest in Waldo County. Unity Pond is great for fishing, boating, and swimming. Thorndike is also about 11 miles from Frye Mountain Game Management Area, a 5241-acre area that allows hunting. This area also has hiking opportunities, but you are advised to wear blaze orange during hunting season. Thorndike is 30 Minutes from Waterville, which would be the closest large city.
