50th Anniversary of The Fair Housing Act

On April 11, 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Fair Housing Act (FHA) into law – effectively protecting Americans from discrimination when they are renting, buying, or securing financing for housing.

While the Fair Housing Act has been an important tool in the advancement toward equity, fair housing challenges remain. According to the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA), over 4 million instances of housing discrimination occur annually, but only about 28,000 incidences are reported — largely because many Americans don’t know their rights.

At Zillow Group, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to find whatever home means to them — and should do so free from discrimination. Discrimination is not tolerated on our platform, and we are committed to using our people, platform, and data to raise awareness about fair housing rights and obligations, and to spotlight the challenges that remain.

This year, Zillow Group is proud to support NFHA’s year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act. Zillow Group will be sponsoring NFHA’s FHAct50 celebrations throughout the year and publishing a variety of analyses and data interactives throughout the month that shed light on the work left to achieve housing equity.
