Helen, I am sorry to hear that you felt this way. I am not sure which agent you were communicating with. We all try our very best to respond to requests as they come in. I would like to take a moment to explain the NAR requirement. I am Andrea Fonash, the Broker for Four Oaks Real Estate, but also work as an agent. I typically handle quite a few rental listings. Any requests to view one of my rental listings are sent to other agents within the office. The other agents in my office are NOT the listing agent, I am. Our Buyer/Tenant Agency requirements changed Nationwide in July of 2024. It is a requirement to have potential buyers/tenants sign a Buyer Agency Contract prior to touring the home. The agents at Four Oaks are all educated as to this requirement. The "Non-Exclusive" Buyer Agency contract is offered, which only pertains to the properties shown to you by the agent. You are not bound to them should you find a home elsewhere. This new rule was put into place to protect the consumer, so that agency was explained to you prior to touring homes. My landlords all offer a commission to a tenant agent, so this is not something that you would have needed to pay. This all being said, if the actual LISTING agent shows you the home, as they represent the Seller/Landlord, they do not need to have you sign a Buyer/Tenant Agency contract. HOWEVER, it is required that they provide you with a Consumer Notice that explains to you that they represent the Landlord's best interests, not yours. If you were shown homes by someone that was not the actual listing agent, they were not operating within the law.
