Colton Hargrove was born and raised in Rockwall, TX, and started playing ice hockey at the age of 4. He attended Western Michigan University on a Division 1 Hockey Scholarship for three years, studying Communications. Following his junior year, he left school to sign his first Entry Level NHL Contract with the Boston Bruins.
