I grew up in Laie and graduated from Kahuku High School in 1996, and from BYU-Hawaii in 2002. I moved to the mainland for graduate school and have a PhD in East Asian Studies from UC Irvine. I then taught at colleges in Maine, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Although I loved teaching college, we missed Hawaii and I wanted to raise my kids here, so we decided to come home.
