Close to skiing without living in the snow and close to San Francisco without the congestion. Auburn fit the bill for those and a few other reasons (including the Mexican food!). Although I left Auburn for stints in Santa Barbara, the Bay Area and Truckee, I've been happily back in Auburn for years...
