#SeaTech4Change: Zillow Planning Tech Volunteer Fair to Connect Seattle Tech Workers with Local Non-Profits

At Zillow, we have a company culture of empowering people, taking big swings and making a difference. And we believe it is so important to leverage that culture to help make a positive impact in our community. It’s why we started the Community Pillar program to connect people with rental barriers with landlords who can help them find housing, and it’s the force behind many of our grassroots charity initiatives.

We believe strongly that the Seattle tech community – filled with talented, passionate and ambitious people – has a unique opportunity and responsibility to help our community thrive. That is the idea behind our first Tech Volunteer Fair, #SeaTech4Change: Local non-profits from all sectors can come and receive help with specific development, design and marketing needs. We invite the experts from the many amazing tech companies in the Seattle area to attend, find an organization that shares their passions and needs their expertise, and offer them skill-based volunteering.

The event will be on Thursday, May 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. in our downtown Seattle Office at 1301 2nd Avenue, floor 31. There will be food, drinks, a beautiful view and great people. We would love for you to join us!

Volunteers

We encourage any developers, designers and marketers who are interested in finding volunteer opportunities to come join us. Please RSVP here to let us know if you can attend and what skills you would like to offer.

Non-Profits

We invite any Washington-based 501(c)(3) non-profit to send us a proposal to be considered for inclusion in our event. We will pick a diverse selection of non-profits with well-defined needs to come host a booth and meet potential volunteers. The deadline for submission is April 1, and we will notify you by April 21 if selected. Please fill out our non-profit submission form with answers the following questions:

  • Name of organization
  • Contact name, email address and phone number
  • What does your organization do / who are you serving?
  • What goals are you hoping to achieve with technical help?
  • What project(s) would help you advance toward these goals?
  • What internal resources can you provide toward these project(s)?

Well-defined, limited-scope projects will be the best fit for this opportunity. Some examples of a good project include:

  • Website/Mobile Application Projects:
    • Search Engine Optimization audit: Make recommendations and implement improvements
    • Building out a specific feature on a website or app (not an entire website overhaul)
    • Small fixes or updates to an entire site or app
  • Marketing Projects:
    • Help create a specific marketing campaign for an initiative
    • Help create a message framework with clearly defined audiences
    • Create/design collateral materials to support an event/campaign
    • Social Media Strategy
  • IT/Technology Projects:
    • Set up network computers and printers
    • Set up an internal wireless network
    • Set up monitoring for your website or app
    • Create internal document sharing or collaboration solution

We are so excited to bring together the organizations making a difference in our community with the talented skill sets of our tech community. Pease reach out to zVolunteer@zillow.com if you have questions about this event, submit non-profit proposals here, and RSVP here if you would like to find skill-based volunteer opportunities.
