This is one of two separate lots (133 & 137 Doubling Rd) totaling 6.9771 acres in the heart of mid-country Greenwich. The park like features are ideally suited for luxury living as the land is located in the North Street School District and is just minutes away from both public and private Schools. With all of these country benefits, this quiet oasis is still less than four miles away from Greenwich Ave shopping and the Greenwich train station.
In total there are three separate lots, zoned ra1, making it ideal for either sub-division or the site for a grand new home.
This land was once home to a Great Estate of Greenwich, built and owned by Colonel Bolling, who made his money as a lawyer at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP representing U.S. Steel Corp. then went on to become Assistant General Solicitor in 1907. Bolling commissioned the architects Carrère and Hastings, the same firm to build the New York Public Library, to build him a English Styled manor mansion, which he named Greyledge, on this site on Doubling Road.
Founded by English colonists in 1640, Greenwich evolved into an exclusive retreat from nearby New York. In 1848, a railroad linked the town to Manhattan. By the 1920s, Greenwich had one of the country's highest per capita incomes.
The sprawling estate was sometimes open to the public for teas and concerts hosted by his widow, Anna. By the 1960s, the colonel's offspring sold Greyledge, as the estate is known. "It was too big for continued use. There was an entire servants' wing," recalls Trish Twining, the colonel's granddaughter.
In 2001 Greyledge was bought by Mr. Spencer W Lampert, Managing Director and Partner of Tudor Investment Corp. In 2014 this property comes to the market and is thought to be the largest piece of real estate available in the desirable Greenwich Mid Country neighborhood.
