August Case-Shiller Forecast: Annual Home-Price Gains Aiming Higher
The Case-Shiller U.S. National Index is expected to continue its upward climb in August, gaining 6.0 percent year-over-year following a 5.9 percent increase in July.
July Case-Shiller Results: Home Prices Still Gaining
The biggest gains in recent months have been in the Pacific Northwest, with Dallas and Denver also experiencing rapid home price growth. Las Vegas, which was hard hit during the housing bust, posted the third fastest increase in the year through July.
August New Home Sales: Dropping Sales and Prices
New home sales are now at their lowest level since December 2016. They fell in August for the second month in a row, declining 3.4 percent from July to 560,000 units (SAAR), according to the Census Bureau.
Even Fixer-Uppers Are Flying Off the Market
In some markets, fixer uppers fly off the market faster than other listings: In Miami, the median fixer upper took 15 fewer days to go pending than the median move-in ready listing. In Atlanta, the median fixer upper went pending in 10 fewer days, and Dallas and Orlando, Fla., 9 fewer days.
August 2017 Market Report: More Than Half of U.S. Homes Have Rebounded to Pre-Recession Peak Values
Less than half (47 percent) of homes valued in the bottom third nationally were worth the same or more than their prior highs, while 52.5 percent of the middle third and 53.8 percent of homes valued in the top third were.
