Life at Zillow

We help people get home – from wherever we call home.

Helping customers get home from our homes

In 2020, we were among the first companies to announce that employees could work from home indefinitely. Then, while other companies debated what to do once the pandemic eases, we saw an opportunity to permanently redefine the future of flexible work. We decided to operate Zillow as a cloud-headquartered company and set the standard for what a post-pandemic workplace culture looks like.

Today, the majority of Zillow employees have the flexibility to work wherever they are most productive: the office, home, or a combination of the two.

Defining location designations

Our shift to a distributed workforce has enabled permanent location flexibility for many Zillow employees. Our job openings have been designated as remote, hybrid, office or field.

Remote

73% of employees

“Remote” employees are not associated with a permanent corporate office and are not required to be in the office on a regular basis. These employees may work within the U.S. (with limited exceptions) from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the company. Remote employees can expect to visit an office for a team event or meeting a couple of times per quarter and will have the option to book space in an office when they choose, providing space is available. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

Hybrid

15% of employees

“Hybrid” employees work at an existing office 10%–80% of their time each month, and have the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of their time. In-office time will vary depending on the employee’s role, and we cannot commit to the exact percentage of time an employee will be required to be at a designated office. Further questions can be directed to your recruiting partner for clarification.

Field

10% of employees

“Field” employees perform the majority of their work in a geographic region/market set by their management team. Employees are expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance* to their region and/or Zillow office.

Office

2% of employees

“Office” employees work from an existing Zillow corporate office 80%–100% of the time each month. Employees are expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance* to their Zillow office.

* ZG has not defined a reasonable distance and expects employees to use sound judgment in determining this for themselves, and to understand the implications regarding the time commitment and cost of a daily commute.

Work that fits your life

Zillow is setting the standard for flexible and inclusive work experiences, by which our employees are supported in doing their best work and living a well-balanced life. By maximizing flexibility to accommodate the moments that matter most, we empower our employees to bring their best selves to all aspects of their lives, including their work.

Cloud HQ is more than where we work – it is the way we get work done each day, connect with one another, and serve our customers. Our goal is to empower employees to carve out time for focused work and asynchronous collaboration.

Work that propels you forward

Keep progressing, wherever you are.

Since many of our roles are no longer defined by location, a flexible workforce has expanded career opportunities for our employees. This internal mobility presents opportunities for career growth through movement across teams and different areas of the business. At Zillow, we believe each employee should have the tools and support they need to be learning and growing their careers, no matter where they work from.

Keep learning, wherever you are.

To empower and develop our flexible workforce, we have a virtual first training strategy, with most of our trainings offered virtually through our internal learning portal, Zillow University, and virtual instructor-led courses. All employees are also given access to LinkedIn Learning, opening the door to a great deal of current content and expert-led courses, which provide employees with the opportunity to build skills in a wide array of areas. We also have Pluralsight and DataCamp skill-building platforms for our tech and data teams.

Work that pays based on experience.

We believe employees should be paid based on their experience, not on their location. We do not adjust compensation if employees choose to live outside major metro areas. Instead, we have a national pay structure that recognizes performance and maintains pay equity within our flexible work structure.

Zillow Group is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you have a disability and require a reasonable accommodation related to applying for employment at our company, please contact us.
